Insurtech developer Blink has announced a partnership with Blue Cross Canassurance to enhance the insurer’s travel insurance product.

Through the partnership, Blue Cross Canassurance will expand its product offerings to include “real-time” travel solutions for when flight disruptions occur. Blink – which was acquired by CPPGroup in 2017 – has developed a platform that tracks flight delays in real time. With this platform, Blue Cross can provide customers (via mobile app) with services to make up for the flight delay, such as access to select lounges, hotel rooms or by providing cash payments.

A release said that the service and the automation features are now included in a large number of Blue Cross travel insurance products sold in Eastern Canada.

“Canada’s travel insurance industry is ripe for innovation. To be able to deliver real-time travel insurance benefits that remove the stress and anxiety while travelling, along with eliminating the hassle of completing claims forms is now the new normal,” said Gary Andrews, president of Red Consulting, representing Blink in Canada.

"We’re delighted to announce our launch with Blue Cross Canassurance, the perfect partner for Blink. They are completely customer-focused and have a very collaborative approach to delivering new travel insurance experiences for their clients,” added Blink CEO Paul Prendergast.

"We are excited to be the first travel insurance company in Canada to offer this innovative solution to our customers,” remarked Blue Cross Canassurance Group president and CEO Sylvain Charbonneau in a statement.

Charbonneau added that “technology is key to providing a unique customer experience”; the partnership with Blink presents Blue Cross an opportunity to deliver “true innovation” in the travel insurance industry, the CEO noted.
