Grandfriends, Welsh Hills School students create ‘peaceful path’

Special to The Sentinel

Grandfriends Day is one of Welsh Hills School’s well-loved traditions.

Each year, grandparents, or a family friend spend the morning at school with students, according to a school news release.

Grandfriends and their students enjoy breakfast together, followed by a variety of specially-planned activities.

Maria Montessori spent a large part of her career promoting peace and because of her dedication, peace education is a major component of a Montessori classroom.

At this year’s event, in honor of Maria Montessori’s commitment to peace, students worked together with their grandfriends to create a stepping stone that will be placed in a “peaceful path” that will meander through the school’s outdoor space.

Students and grandfriends were invited to bring stones, ceramic pieces, shells and other small objects to personalize their stone.

As students and others enjoy a stroll on this artwork, these stones will serve as a tangible reminder of Montessori’s commitment to peace.
