Is this heaven? No, it’s Taco Bell.
But the first player who steals a base in the 2018 World Series could have a long line of cars headed for the fast food chain the way baseball fans streamed into Iowa at the end of the 1989 baseball film “Field of Dreams.”
The Irvine-based fast food chain is bringing back its “Steal a Base, Steal a Taco” promotion for the seventh year, according to a news release. After the series begins Oct. 23 the first player to steal a base will trigger a giveaway of one free Doritos Locos Taco per fan that will take place 2-6 p.m. Nov. 1.
The promotion begins with limited-edition baseball caps that will be available for $30 at the Taco Shop, the chain’s online merchandise page.
Also, Taco Bell is partnering with the Topps Company on baseball cards honoring the six “Taco Heroes” who stole bases in previous Major League Baseball promotions. A seventh card will be added 24 hours after the base is stolen. The collection will be included free with purchase of the baseball cap and be available at restaurants near ballparks hosting the World Series.
Since the Los Angeles Dodgers are still in the running, one of those ballparks could be Dodger Stadium. We may not know which two teams will be going until Oct. 22, but the options include the Dodgers or the Milwaukee Brewers and either the Boston Red Sox or Houston Astros.
