Doctor Who season 11 spoilers: Game of Thrones star to join Jodie Whittaker in BBC cameo

DOCTOR WHO season 11 aired on BBC One last night with the new Doctor Jodie Whittaker at the helm of the show. But this series also looks set to have the highest number of star cameos.

fans were sent into a frenzy during yesterday’s programme, titled The Woman Who Fell to Earth.

However, after the credits had rolled, the show teased a whole host of big names that would be appearing over the course of the season.

The roll call of some of the guest stars hinted at exciting scenes to come as each actor was clad in period and sci-fi costumes.

Alan Cumming will be playing Scottish monarch King James I, while star Mark Addy will also take on a secret role.

Other stars include Broadchurch's Julie Hesmondhalgh and Shaun Dooley, along with comedian Lee Mack.

Sex and the City's Mr Big, Chris Noth, will also be appearing, along with Benidorm’s Siobhan Finneran.

Holby City’s Art Malik will star, as will comedian and rapper Ben Bailey Smith, also known as Doc Brown.

Happy Valley's Shane Zaza will make an appearance, along with Alison Garrs star Susan Lynch who will take on the role of Angstrom in episode two of the new series, titles The Ghost Monument.

The teaser trailer also featured Downtown Abbey actress Phyllis Logan, Coronation Street’s Shobna Gulati and Sherlock’s Vinette Robinson.

Lois Chimimba previously starred alongside Jodie Whittaker when she played Karen in Trust Me last year and is set to make a cameo in the BBC sci-fi drama.

Amita Suman, who played roles in Casualty and Ackley Bridge, will play Umbreen in Doctor Who, mentioned by showrunner Chris Chibnall as one of his most anticipated characters of the new series.

Derek’s Brett Goldstein, Daniel Grayson in ABC's Revenge star Josh Bowman, Our Girl’s Hamza Jeetooa and Casualty’s Suzanne Packer will also make cameos.

Last night’s episode was set in a South Yorkshire city where new the new Doctor met her new companions.

Ryan Sinclair (played by Tosin Cole), Yasmin Khan (Mandip Gill) and Graham O'Brien (Bradley Walsh) had their lives changed for ever, as the “mysterious woman” was unable to remember her own name having fallen from the night sky.

Jodie’s Doctor then went about tackling aliens and solving strange events taking place across the city, notably Tzim-Sha who was clad in his victim’s teeth.

Jodie first made an appearance when Peter Capaldi made his departure from the BBC hit.

Fans of the show, the first with a female Doctor, praised actress Jodie for her fresh portrayal of the character.

A synopsis for next week’s episode, titled The Ghost Monument, reveals the Doctor will battle with her new friends to try and stay alive.

It reads: “Still reeling from their first encounter, can the Doctor and her new friends stay alive long enough in a hostile alien environment to solve the mystery of Desolation? And just who are Angstrom and Epzo?”
