WEBVTT NEWS. MATT: FEDERAL INVESTIGATORS ANNOUNCED THAT JACOB SHMOYER INTENTIONALLY BLEW UP THE CAR TO KILL HIMSELF, HIS 2-YEAR-OLD SON JONATHAN JJ SCHMOYER AND A FRIEND, 66-YEAR-OLD DAVID HILLMAN. THE EXPLOSION CAME FROM INSIDE THE CAR AND THEY SAY HE MAILED A SERIES OF LETTERS TO POLICE AND HIS FAMILY IN WHICH HE DETAILED HOW HE MADE THE EXPLOSIVES AND THAT HE INTENDED TO KILL HIS SON AND HILLMAN. Authorities say a car explosion in Allentown that killed three people was a murder-suicide.Investigators said Thursday that 26-year-old Jacob Schmoyer had sent letters to family and police indicating he used an explosive to kill himself, his 2-year-old son J.J. and Schmoyer's friend, 66-year-old David Hallman.The letters were received after Saturday's explosion, which scattered debris over several city blocks.According to authorities, Schmoyer said in the letters that he was miserable, accepted blame for the murders and detailed how he constructed the device.
