Firefighters rescued riders from a Ferris wheel that broke down at Camden County Fair Saturday.

GLOUCESTER TWP. -  A Ferris wheel breakdown left some fairgoers stuck in midair  Saturday — until firefighters came to their rescue.

Seven riders were stranded at various heights when the children's ride broke down around 3 p.m. at the Camden County Fair, according to Gloucester Township police.

One of the four occupied seats was about 40 feet off the ground, police said.

A fair employee alerted officers at the scene, and local fire departments arrived with a tower ladder, police said.

"Throughout the incident, all riders remained calm and were in good spirits," said a police account.

It said the rescue took about 30 minutes and no injuries were reported.

Firefighters responded to a Ferris wheel breakdown at the Camden County Fair Saturday.

The ride, which had passed an inspection earlier Saturday, was closed after the malfunction.

The owner "is making arrangements to have it repaired and re-inspected," police said.

The fair is to continue Sunday at the county's Lakeland complex.
