Sometimes you can sugar coat the pill, but not today.

One of our supporters from our first spell in the Combined Counties in the 90's came up from Bournemouth to pay his respects to Dave Baker, and Eric gave permission for me to say he thought we were rubbish and he couldn't remember us playing that badly in our early senior days.

We missed good chances to take the lead and then equalise and paid dearly. In the 9th minute, Bitz was put through but didn't shoot first time and his eventual shot from a tight angle was cleared off the line by a tracking defender. Two minutes later Joe Grant hit a low curler from the edge of the box into the far corner past an unsighted Brannon Daly, our fourth keeper of the campaign already - Tyler broke a hand in last Saturday's game and will miss up to eight weeks. Bracknell were probably a bit unlucky to go in just 1-0 up.

We started the second half brightly and, in the 48th minute, the ball reached Nebay at the back of the box and, with half an empty goal, his snapshot missed the target. Two minutes later, a long kick from Robins keeper Scott Hack found sub Gavin James who went though like a knife through butter for 2-0. That was the first of four goals in 20 minutes as we allowed Grant to score a hat-trick and then Liam Ferdinand to get the fifth. The goals were well taken but we made it easy for them.

I dread to think what poor Dave Baker's reaction would have been.

We need to get back to winning ways on Tuesday after a disappointing display on Saturday. Very surprising as well as we had been at the top of our game just 7 days before at Tooting. Our win there was much deserved after a mature and professional performance. It was difficult to believe that it was mostly the same players who were on the pitch against Bracknell.

We just have to admit it was a bad day and move on to the next game.

Fair comments there, manurgrate.

For the record, I understand the final comment of the first post has been taken as a dig at how the players, management etc. have somehow disrespected Dave in general. Far from it and never meant to be read in that capacity, though I can see why some read it that way.

Two things that need clarifying (and I'd forgotten the latter to be honest) is that, when we were first in the Combined Counties League from 1990 to 2000, the team more or less picked itself week after week and had very few transitional rebuilds and, more importantly, the League was two levels below its current level and thus three divisions below where we are now. How many at the club can actually remember that the Isthmian League had FOUR separate tiers back in those days?

Personally, I don’t doubt the efforts put in by folk on the pitch and in the dugout, boardroom and elsewhere. It’s a far cry from the cossetted world of the current English professional game. It’s fair to say, though, it was one of those days and we didn’t really anticipate that final score prior to kick off. Something to use as ‘right, we’ll show them’ ammo for the next game.

Talking of which, I’ve not been put off and I’ll be ready to suffer (tee hee)… er, cheer the lads on at Molesey, transport permitting, and hopefully see us start a good long Trophy run on Saturday.

You shouldn’t be too surprised to see Bracknell near the top of the table at the end of the season. They have several former Slough Town players who have played at Southern Premier level in recent Years.

including Mark Scott, Matt Day, Ryan Parsons, Jamie McClurg, Adam Cornell and Gavin James.

Mark Scott easily being the best goalkeeper in the league. With Matt Day having played Conference South not too long ago with Hungerford.

At home Bracknell will tear teams apart on their 3G, scoring 3 or 4 on a regular basis.
