NYC Weekend Subway Service Changes Sept. 22-23

Heads up: The 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, A, B, C, D, E, F, G, J, M, N and Q​ trains won't be running normally this weekend.

NEW YORK, NY — Here's how the Metropolitan Transportation Authority will screw up your plans this weekend — from late Friday night, Sept. 21, through early Monday morning, Sept. 24 — in the name of "upgrading and maintaining our tracks, stations and signal systems in order to continue to provide our customers with safe and reliable service.

Getting around on the subway this weekend is going to be tough, as a staggering 18 train lines will be running with modified service. (For more New York City news delivered straight to your inbox sign up for Patch's free newsletters and breaking news alerts.)

1 train:

  • At all times until winter 2018-19, downtown trains skip 238 St due to station improvements. As an alternative, take the Bx9 to 231 St, or take an uptown train to 242 St and transfer to a downtown 1.

2 train:

  • From 3:45 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, to 10 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 23, uptown trains will run express from 3 Av-149 St to E 180 St due to track replacement. As an alternative, use a downtown 2 train to complete your trip. Transfer at E 180 St or 149 St-Grand Concourse.

3 train:

  • At all times until November 2018, 3 trains will skip 145 St in both directions due to MTA's Enhanced Station Initiative project. During this closure, 3 trains will run between New Lots Av and 96 St, and via the 1 to 137 St, the last stop. Free shuttle buses will provide alternate service between 148 St and 135 St. Transfer between 2/3 trains at 96 St and between 2 trains at 135 St.
  • From 9:45 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, and from 6:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22 and Sunday, Sept. 23, New Lots Av-bound 3 trains run express from Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr to Crown Hts-Utica Av due to track maintenance between Nostrand Av and Crown Hts-Utica Av. As an alternative, use a Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College bound 2, or Manhattan-bound 3 or 4 local to complete your trip. Transfer at Crown Hts-Utica Av 3/4, Franklin Av, Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr, or Nevins St.

4 train:

  • From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21 to 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 24, New Lots Av-bound 4 trains run express from Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr to Crown Hts-Utica Av due to track maintenance between Nostrand Av and Crown Hts-Utica Av. As an alternative, use a Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College bound 2, or Manhattan-bound 4 to complete your trip. Transfer at Crown Hts-Utica Av 4, Franklin Av, Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr, or Nevins St.

5 train:

  • From 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, and from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 23, 2 trains provide alternate service between 149 St-Grand Concourse and E 180 St due to track replacement. 5 service will run in two sections: between Bowling Green and 149 St-Grand Concourse every 20 minutes (days/evenings), and between E 180 St and Dyre Av all weekend. 2 service will operate between Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College and 241 St. Transfer between 2 and 5 trains at 149 St-Grand Concourse. As a reminder, 5 trains from Manhattan skip 138 St-Grand Concourse; take the 4.
  • From 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, and from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 23, 5 trains run every 20 minutes between Bowling Green and 149 St-Grand Concourse due to track maintenance. 5 trains from Manhattan skip 138 St-Grand Concourse. Take the 4 instead.

4/6 trains:

  • At all times until December 2018, 4/6 trains will skip 28 St in both directions due to MTA's Enhanced Station Initiative project. For alternate service during this closure, use the nearby 6 stations along Park Av South at 33 St or 23 St. Or, use the nearby 28 St R/W station. Local buses are also available along Lexington Av and Madison Av.

7 train:

  • From 11:45 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21 to 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 24, Flushing-bound 7 trains run express from 74 St-Broadway to Willets Point due to signal modernization along the Flushing Line. As an alternative, use a 34 St-Hudson Yards-bound 7 to complete your trip. Transfer at Willets Point, Junction Blvd, or 74 St-Broadway.

A/C trains:

  • At all times until September 2018, A and C trains skip 163 St-in both directions due to MTA's Enhanced Station Initiative project. For alternate service during this closure, use the nearby 168 St A and C , 155 St A and C, or 157 St 1 instead. Use M3, M100 or M101 buses and transfer to the at 168 St or 155 St with MetroCard. Need to transfer to another bus? Ask the M3, M100 or M101 driver for a MetroCard Bus Transfer, which is valid on your next local bus ride within two hours. On your return trip, ask the station agent at 168 St or 155 St for a transfer to the bus.
  • From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, to 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 24, downtown trains will run express from 125 St to 59 St-Columbus Circle due to station improvements at 72 St and 103 St. As an alternative, use an uptown A local, or C to complete your trip. Transfer at 59 St-Columbus Circle or 125 St. As a reminder, C trains do not run overnight.

B train:

  • From 8:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, B service will end early due to track maintenance on the Sixth Avenue Line. As an alternative, take the C/D and/or Q. As a reminder, B service does not run on weekends.

B/C trains:

  • At all times until late Oct. 2018, B/C trains will skip 72 St and 86 St in both directions due to MTA's Enhanced Station Initiative project.
    • For service to/from 72 St, use nearby B/C stations at 81 St-Museum of Natural History and 59 St-Columbus Circle. Or take the 123 at, along Broadway. Use an M10 bus along Frederick Douglass Blvd and transfer to the B/C (A overnight) at 81 St or 59 St with MetroCard.
    • For service to/from 86 St, use nearby B/C stations at 81 St-Museum of Natural History and 96 St. Or take the 1 at 86 St, along Broadway. Use an M10 bus along Frederick Douglass Blvd and transfer to the B/C (A overnight) at 81 St or 96 St with MetroCard.

B/D trains:

  • At all times until December 2018, B and D trains will skip 174-175 Sts in both directions due to MTA's Enhanced Station Initiative project. As an alternative, customers are advised to use the nearby Tremont Av or 170 St B/D stations. Use the Bx1 or Bx2 along Grand Concourse and transfer to B or D trains at Tremont Av or 170 St with a MetroCard. For either station, if you need to transfer to another bus, ask the driver for a MetroCard Bus Transfer which can be used on your next local bus ride within two hours. On your return trip, ask the station agent at the Tremont Av or 170 St stations for a transfer to the bus.
  • At all times until Jan. 2019, B/D trains will skip 167 St in both directions MTA's Enhanced Station Initiative project. As an alternative, customers are advised to use the nearby stations at 170 St B/D, 167 St 4, or 161 St-Yankee Stadium 4/B/D. Use the Bx1 or Bx2 along Grand Concourse and transfer to the subway at 170 St or 161 St-Yankee Stadium with a MetroCard. Use the Bx35 along E 167 St and transfer to the 4 at 167 St station with a MetroCard. If you need to transfer to another bus, ask the bus operator for a MetroCard Bus Transfer which can be used on your next local bus ride within two hours. D train:

  • From 9:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, to 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 24, service is rerouted in both directions via the A express between 59 St-Columbus Circle and Jay St-MetroTech, and via the between Jay St-MetroTech and Kings Hwy, the last stop, due to track replacement near W 4 St-Wash Sq and other locations. As an alternative, use stations on 8 Av or stations on Broadway to complete your trip. trains will make all line station stops between Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr and Kings Hwy. Transfer at Times Sq-42 St/Port Authority , Jay St-MetroTech , or 4 Av-9 St . Free shuttle buses will operate in two sections: between W 4 St-Wash Sq and Grand St, and between Kings Hwy and Coney Island-Stillwell Av station.

E/F trains:

  • From 12:01 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, to 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 24, trains run local in both directions in Queens due to signal modernization along the Queens Boulevard Line.

F train:

  • At all times until Dec. 2018, F trains will skip 57 St in both directions due to due to MTA's Enhanced Station Initiative project. For alternate service during this closure, use nearby stations at 57 St-7 Av N/Q/R/W, 5 Av/59 St N/R/W, 7 Av B/D/E, 5 Av/53 St E/M, or 47-50 Sts B/D/F/M.   • From 9:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, to 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 24, service is rerouted in both directions via the Q express between Lexington Av/63 St and Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr, and via the D between Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr and Coney Island-Stillwell Av due to track replacement near W 4 St-Wash Sq and other areas. As an alternative, use A/C/E stations on 8 Av or N/Q/R stations on Broadway to complete your trip. D trains will make all F line station stops between Jay St-MetroTech and Kings Hwy. Transfer at Times Sq-42 St/Port Authority, Canal St, or Jay St-MetroTech. Free shuttle buses will run along two routes: between W 4 St-Wash Sq and East Broadway, and between Jay St-MetroTech and York St.
  • From 9:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, to 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 24, D trains and free shuttle buses replace the F in Brooklyn between Jay St-MetroTech and Coney Island-Stillwell Av due to structural improvements at Kings Hwy. D trains will run via the F line in both directions between Jay St-MetroTech and Kings Hwy. Free shuttle buses will make all stops between Kings Hwy and Coney Island-Stillwell Av. Transfer between D trains and free shuttle buses at Kings Hwy. Transfer between F/Q trains and free shuttle buses at Coney Island-Stillwell Av. For direct service between Coney Island-Stillwell Av and Downtown Brooklyn/Manhattan, take the F or Q.

F/M trains:

  • At all times until December 2018, F/M trains will skip 23 St in both directions due to due to MTA's Enhanced Station Initiative project. The 23 St F/M station opened around the time of World War II, in December 1940. For alternate service during this closure, use the nearby 34 St-Herald Sq or 14 St F/M stations along 6 Av. Or, use the nearby 23 St R/W station on Broadway. Local buses are also available along 6 Av and 7 Av.

G train:

  • From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, to 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 24, free shuttle buses will replace trains between Court Sq and Nassau Av due to station improvements at Greenpoint Av, including the installation of three new elevators and other updates to make the station fully accessible. This work will help ensure that G service will be safe and reliable when more customers will be using service and stations during the L train tunnel reconstruction. This weekend, G service will operate between Church Av and Nassau Av. Free shuttle buses will make all G line station stops between Nassau Av and Court Sq. Transfer between G trains and free shuttle buses at Nassau Av.

J train:

  • At all times until Fall 2018, Jamaica Center Parsons/Archer-bound trains skip 104 St and 121 St due to station rehabilitation work. Use a Manhattan-bound J train to complete your trip. Transfer Sutphin Blvd, 111 St or Woodhaven Blvd.
  • From 3:45 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, to 10 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 23, free shuttle buses and E trains replace J trains between Crescent St and Jamaica Center due to station rehabilitation at 104 St and 121 St. J service will operate between Broad St and Crescent St. Free shuttle buses will make all station stops between Crescent St and 121 St, and connect with the E at Jamaica-Van Wyck. Transfer between trains and free shuttle buses at Jamaica-Van Wyck E, and/or Crescent St J. As a reminder, the Jamaica Center-bound platforms at 104 St and 121 St are closed for renovations.

J/M trains:

  • From 3:45 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, to 10 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 23, Crescent St-bound J and Metropolitan Av-bound M trains skip Hewes St, Lorimer St, and Flushing Av due to track replacement at Lorimer St and Flushing Av. As an alternative, use a Manhattan-bound J or M train to complete your trip. Transfer at Myrtle Av, Marcy Av, or Delancey-Essex Sts. As a reminder, late night M service runs between Metropolitan Av and Myrtle Av.

M train:

  • Beginning 8:15 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, M service will end early between Forest Hills-71 Av and Delancey-Essex Sts due to track replacement near W 4 St-Wash Sq and other locations.
  • From 6:30 a.m. to midnight Saturday, Sept. 22, and Sunday, Sept. 23, service runs to/from the Chambers St J station due to track replacement at Lorimer St and Flushing Av. Trains run every 20 minutes between Metropolitan Av and Chambers St this weekend. M trains will stop at the Bowery and Canal St stations.

N train:

  • At all times until fall 2018, Coney Island-Stillwell Ave. bound N trains skip Fort Hamilton Pkwy, New Utrecht Ave., 18th Av., 20th Ave., Kings Hwy, Avenue U and 86th St. due to station rehabilitation work at nine stations on the Sea Beach Line.
    • For service from these stations, take a Manhattan-bound N to Bay Pkwy or 8th Ave. and transfer to a Coney Island-Stillwell Ave. bound N.
    • For New Utrecht Ave.-62 St., take the D. Transfer between N and D trains at 36th St. or Coney Island-Stillwell Ave.
    • For service to these stations, take the Coney Island-Stillwell Ave. bound N to Bay Pkwy or Coney Island-Stillwell Ave. and transfer to a Manhattan-bound N.
  • At all times until July 2019, N trains will run local in both directions between 59 St and 36 St in Brooklyn due to structural rehabilitation work to repair and replace steel columns, lighting, ventilators, and deteriorated concrete, and perform water mitigation work to address water seepage in the express tunnel between the 59 St and 36 St stations. N trains will stop at 53 St and 45 St in both directions.
  • At all times until February 2019, N trains will skip Broadway and 39th Ave. in both directions due to MTA's Enhanced Station Initiative project. For alternate service during this closure, use the nearby open Astoria line stations at 30th Ave., 36th Ave., or Queensboro Plaza via the Q102 bus.
  • From 10 p.m. Friday, Sept 21, to 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 24, trains are rerouted via the R line (Lower Manhattan) in both directions between Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr and Canal St due to track replacement near W 4 St-Wash Sq and other locations. N trains will stop at DeKalb Av, Jay St-MetroTech, Court St, Whitehall St, Rector St, Cortlandt St, and City Hall. As a reminder, N trains will stop at 53 St and 45 St in both directions until July 2019 due to structural rehabilitation work in the express tunnel.
  • From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, to 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 24, free shuttle buses replace trains between Ditmars Blvd and Queensboro Plaza due to station improvements at Ditmars Blvd and also Broadway and 39 Av. N service will operate between Queensboro Plaza and Coney Island-Stillwell Av. Free shuttle buses will make all station stops between Ditmars Blvd and Queensboro Plaza. Transfer between trains and buses at Queensboro Plaza. As a reminder, trains skip Broadway and 39 Av in both directions until February 2019 due to station renovations.

Q train:

  • From 5:45 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 2, to 10 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 23, Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound trains skip Avenue U due to track maintenance. As an alternative, use a Manhattan-bound train to complete your trip. Transfer at Sheepshead Bay or Kings Hwy.
