Brookside’s fifth and sixth graders attended their first active learner assembly presented by Mrs. Beckert. She taught the students that active learners are determined and self-aware. The students learned that being determined means that they are doing what needs to be done even when you don’t feel like doing it. They also learned that being self-aware doesn’t mean that we never make mistakes, but it’s the ability to learn from our mistakes and correct them. Mrs. Beckert taught the kids to give themselves positive self-talk, be proactive in their learning, find solutions to problems and never give up. Mrs. Beckert will meet with the other grades later this month.
