Woman sentenced after hiding cocaine in her vagina while coming into jail

NEWARK - The following people were sentenced for felony offenses in Licking County Common Pleas Court:

James D. Sapp, 26, last known address 14 W. Pratt St., Johnstown, was sentenced to three years of community control after being found guilty of one count of aggravated trafficking of drugs, a fourth-degree felony.

On Jan. 10, 2017, Sapp sold 20 Adderall pills to a confidential informant, according to court records.

Judge Thomas Marcelain ordered Sapp to pay all court costs and fees.

Kymani D. Barnhart, 18, last known address 4437 Chandler Drive, Whitehall, was sentenced to 180 days in jail after being found guilty of three counts of assault, first-degree misdemeanors.

On Nov. 7, Barnhart caused physical harm to three classmates at Eagle Wings Academy, according to court records.

Judge David Branstool ordered Barnhart to pay all court costs and fees.

Shawn A. Hartrum, 38, last known address 266 N. Fifth St., Newark, was sentenced to nine years in prison after being found guilty of two counts of aggravated possession of drugs, second-degree felonies, and aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony.

On Nov. 16, Hartrum had 0.97 grams of methamphetamine, according to court records.

Branstool ordered Hartrum to pay all court costs and fees.

Ashley D. Byers, 31, last known address 12465 Duncan Plains Road, Johnstown, was sentenced to three years of community control after being found guilty of one count each of illegal conveyance of drugs onto grounds of detention facility, a third-degree felony, and possession of cocaine, a fifth-degree felony.

On Feb. 24, 2017, Byers hid a plastic container of cocaine in her vagina while being booked into the Licking County Justice Center, according to court records.

Branstool ordered Byers to pay all court costs and fees, and to complete 100 hours of community service.

Brandon D. Wills, 25, last known address 118 S. Second St., Newark, was sentenced to 90 days in jail and three years of community control after being found guilty of breaking and entering, a fifth-degree felony.

On Dec. 16, 2017, Wills and another person entered the Webb House Museum on Granville Street and took several items, according to court records.

Branstool ordered Wills to pay all court costs and fees, and to complete 50 hours of community service.

Kevin J. Johnson, 40, last known address 23 N. Shaffer St. Apt. 4, Springfield, Ohio, was sentenced to 18 months in prison after being found guilty of of two counts of theft from person in a protected class, fifth-degree felonies.

On Dec. 2, 2016, Johnson stole $700 from an elderly person, who was under the guardianship of another person, according to court records.   

Marcelain ordered Johnson to pay all court costs and fees.

Kyle M. Bateman, 27, last known address 1868 Wind River Drive, Lancaster, was sentenced to four years in prison after being found guilty of burglary, a second-degree felony.

On April 2, Bateman stole two televisions, an Xbox gaming system and games, according to court records.

Marcelain ordered Bateman to pay all court costs and fees.
