NEW LEXINGTON - Two dogs were shot and an officer injured earlier today in New Lexington, after the officer entered the wrong home.

New Lexington Police Department

According to information obtained through dispatch at New Lexington Fire and EMS, a squad was dispatched sometime around noon Tuesday.

Due to the nature of the call, a New Lexington police officer was requested for assistance at the scene. The caller, however, provided the wrong address which resulted in the officer entering the wrong house.

Police Chief Scott Ervin said the officer entered the residence and was attacked by at least one dog at the residence. Two dogs were subsequently shot.

Ervin said the officer was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was treated and released.

New Lexington Dog Warden Kerrie Taylor transported the dogs to the OSU Veterinary Medical Center in Columbus.

Ervin could not provide any further details due to the pending investigation.
