News Briefs: 3 Sheriffs to discuss church safety

Fremont City Schools is allowing students to dress down in anticipation of hot weather Wednesday. Temperatures are expected to reach the lower 90s.

Security in churches to be examined at forum

SANDUSKY - Sandusky County Sheriff Chris Hilton will be one of three area sheriffs participating in a forum on Safety, Security and Protection in Churches and elsewhere.

The public event sponsored by Firelands Lutherans Active in Mission (FLAME) will be held at 7 p.m. Sept. 25 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 2211 Mills St., Sandusky. Also participating are Erie County Sheriff Paul Sigworth and Huron County Sheriff Todd Corbin.

Sandusky County Park Board to meet

FREMONT - The Sandusky County Park District Board will meet at 8 a.m. Wednesday at the park district main office on Countryside Drive. The board will receive updates on White Star Park water and waste water services, River Cliff park, and the Terra State College connection to the North Coast Inland Trail.

French Toast Breakfast set for Sunday

OAK HARBOR - The Oak Harbor Knights of Columbus will host a French Toast and Sausage Family Breakfast at St. Boniface Catholic Church at 9 a.m. Sunday. The menu also will include homemade rolls, homemade applesauce, coffee, hot chocolate and juice. Donation is $7 for adults,  $6 for senior citizens, and $4 for children 12 and under. 

Proceeds will benefit he Humane Society of Ottawa County. The Knights of Columbus are also seeking donations to fill the humane society's wish list, which can be found at hsocpets.org.  

Gibsonburg town council to meet 

GIBSONBURG - Gibsonburg Town Council will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at town hall, 526 N. Webster St.

The village has set 6 to 7 p.m. Oct. 28 for trick or treat times.

11th Annual Cars for Critters set for Sunday

OAK HARBOR - The 11th Annual Cars for Critters Benefit Car Show will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge. 

Local DJ Crusin Zeake will provide the entertainment. Car owners may enter their vehicles in critter classes such as Best Bird (Skylark, Falcon), Best Mammal (Mustang, Pinto), and Best Reptile (Cobra, Viper). Trophy plaques will be awarded.

The Ottawa Wildlife Drive will be open sunrise to sunset. The event is open to the public. For more information, call 419-898-0014, Ext.13.
