At Montane Dental Care, the process to have porcelain veneers placed takes 3 appointments. The first appointment is your consultation and wax-up, showing a general picture of what your end results will be like. The second appointment is to actually prepare your teeth and place temporary veneers on. The third appointment is when your final, custom-made veneers will be placed.Porcelain veneers can improve your smile | Dr. Jorge Montane | Fremont, CA

The Average Porcelain Veneers Timeline

On average, the porcelain veneers process from consultation to final placement takes around 3 weeks. After your initial consultation, your temporary veneers will be made in our cosmetic lab. Then, after your teeth are prepared and your temporaries are placed, your custom veneers will be fabricated. Your final visit will be to place your custom veneers.

In some cases, patients find that they want changes made to their final veneers. Dr. Montane will accommodate these changes, but this will extend your veneers timeline as new custom veneers will need to be fabricated and placed.

Why Do You Need Temporary Veneers?

Patients sometimes wonder why they can't simply skip the temporary veneers and just have their final veneers made and placed. Temporary veneers serve a valuable purpose, though. Benefits of temporary veneers include:

  • You can get an idea of what your veneers will look like in your mouth, so that you can have better input into what your custom veneers should look like.
  • Your teeth will be filed down and etched, which makes them vulnerable and sensitive. Temporary veneers protect the teeth until your final veneers can be placed.

Custom-made porcelain veneers take some time to be fabricated, and end up looking as close to your natural teeth as possible. It can be expensive and time-consuming to send your custom veneers back to the lab to fix aspects that you don't like about them. With temporary veneers, you can see what your smile will look like and catch any issues before your custom veneers are fabricated.

Does Placing Porcelain Veneers Hurt?

The process of filing down your teeth and placing your porcelain veneers should not be painful. It may be mildly uncomfortable, but Dr. Montane is very gentle and will do everything he can to make your experience as comfortable as possible. His nickname is "No Pain Montane" for a reason!

Most patients don't have any trouble with the procedure. If you have a dental phobia, Dr. Montane will work with you to make the experience tolerable. Our entire staff are caring and compassionate, and we will walk you through the whole process and offer sedation if necessary. Typically, it is not necessary for porcelain veneer placement.
