It's been a while since strategy fans have heard about The Settlers. You may recall the Kingdoms of Anteria announcement from 2014, and you may also recall that nothing ever came of that. Sadly, the last official Settlers release came in 2010 with The Settlers 7. Ubisoft doesn't want you to think they've forgotten about it, and today at Gamescom the studio announced the return of the franchise in a game simply called The Settlers late next year.
The Settlers will be led by franchise creator Volker Wertich, so fans can rest assured the reboot is in good hands. The new title will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the series, and Ubisoft isn't content to just release one game for the strategy series. All seven previous Settlers games will be arriving on PC through The Settlers History Collection on November 15, with the first game's history edition available now.
The only catch is that the History Collection is available exclusively for Uplay, so that's likely to be an instant turnoff for many fans. The collection will include the gold version for all seven games, so every expansion, improvement, and optimization patch will be there from the start. You can pick them up either as standalone games or in one collection, depending on your preference. Ubisoft didn't state whether the upcoming Settlers reboot title will be a Uplay exclusive or if they'll make it available on other distribution platforms as well, so we'll just have to wait and see. We do know that The Settlers will be making its home on PCs in fall 2019.
