Bloodstained fans who are eagerly awaiting Ritual of the Night will have to wait just a little longer. Former Castlevania designer Koji Igarashi announced a double dose of bad news today for Kickstarter backers. The game has been delayed for some extra polishing time, which is a disappointment enough to some fans, but one of the versions originally planned for Bloodstained has been scrapped entirely.
In case you didn't immediately jump to the conclusion that the Vita was the victim of today's secondary announcement, it was. While the game as a whole needs some extra work before Ritual of the Night is ready to go, the Vita version won't be seeing it at all. Igarashi's note on Kickstarter points most of the blame for the decision on Sony, who's been gradually phasing out the Vita for some time. Not only is the system no longer receiving physical copies of games, but Sony has also disabled some of the Vita's support features on the PlayStation store.
The good news is if you did happen to back the game and selected the now-canceled Vita version, 505 Games is giving you the opportunity to back a different platform or even request a refund of your pledge. Bloodstained is already closing in on two years past its original delivery date, as Ritual of the Night's original Kickstarter page had an estimated delivery of March 2017, but extra polish isn't a bad thing. The announcement didn't bring any specifics for a new release date beyond 2019, but we'll get more information when it becomes available. Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night will be available for the PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC next year.
