Shoe drive to benefit Wreaths Across America

OAK HARBOR - The Ottawa County Wreath Committee is gearing up for National Wreaths Across America Day on Dec. 15. The group has placed over 3,900 Christmas wreaths for Ottawa County heroes since 2016. The goal will be to purchase 1,530 wreaths for 2018.

The group is seeking the donation of new or gently used shoes during a boot and shoe drive through Oct. 10 as a fundraiser. Drop-off points include: Body Works, Community Markets, and Shoreline Church, all in Oak Harbor; Millers Market, Genoa; and VFW Post 2480, Port Clinton.

Clyde HS club to host cornhole tourney

CLYDE - The Clyde High School Drama Club will hold a cornhole tournament at 3 p.m. Sept. 22 during the Clyde Fair in downtown. The tournament will be on the North Coast Inland Bike Trail near the police station.

Registration begins at 2 p.m. tournament day and will be $25 per team. There will be a limit of 16 teams. Competitors should bring their own boards and bags. Grand prize is $100 and a Clyde Fliers Cornhole board set.

Adults invited to relive youth at Camp Encore

FREMONT - Sandusky County Young Professionals Group is sponsoring Camp Encore Sept. 8 and 9 at Camp Fire Sandusky County. Camp Encore is Northwest Ohio’s 21 and over, co-ed, adult sleep-away camp experience. Campers will experience an encore to their childhood when they arrive for this summer camp complete with opening and closing ceremonies, arts and crafts, field and water activities, tribe talent show and themed “Back to the '90s” evening reception.  

Cost is $100 per overnight camper and $75 for Saturday only. Campers are to bring their own drinks and tent. For tickets go to www.campfiresc.org.

Lakota board changes meeting night

KANSAS - The Lakota Local School District Board of Education will not meet in regular session on Aug. 20 as previously scheduled.

The next regular meeting will be held instead at 7 p.m. Aug. 27. This meeting will be held in the Staff Dining Room at Lakota Local Schools, 5200 County Road 13.
