Millersport news: Cruisin' on the Commons this Friday

Cruisin’ on the Commons will be held at the Millersport Lions Park from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday. Registration will be from 5 until 7 p.m. The registration fee is $5 for cars, trucks and motorcycles. Winners will be determined by sponsors except two trophies determined by Cruiser’s Choice (one pre-1975 vehicle and one 1976 or newer).  Come out for lots of fun with trophies, music, food, door prizes, 50/50 and trivia games. For more information call 614-562-1919. The event is hosted by the Millersport Sweet Corn Festival Committee. Proceeds will benefit the Heritage Area and Christmas and Catastrophe Fund.

Senior citizens

The Millersport Senior Citizens will meet for their potluck lunch at noon Friday 17th in the Lions Clubhouse, 2839 Chautauqua Boulevard in Millersport. There will be a White Elephant Auction with tickets sold for 10 cents each.  Members are asked to bring their auction items around 11:30.

The Fairfield Beach Senior Citizens met Aug. 8th with 20 members and three guests in attendance.  

Anna Tobin from Meals on Wheels gave a condensed version of what programs are offered through her agency.  She will be returning to the September meeting to give more information. Laura DeMichael, Barb Ramsey and Kelley Bauman were present to explain programs of the Salvation Army such as The Samaritan Center for Adult Day Services.

Those remembered with August birthdays were Mary Dupler and Bill Yates.  on and Karen Pairan will celebrate their wedding anniversary in August. Plans were finalized for the October Breakfast meeting to be held at IHOP in Lancaster at 9 a.m. Oct. 10 prior to Senior Citizens Day at the Fairfield County Fair.  Door Prizes were won by Drenille Keener, Richard Neff, Gail Barber, Lorraine Hiles, Ron Pairan, Pat Miller and Kim Lutz. 

The next meeting will be held at noon Sept. 12 with the opportunity to play games following lunch.  

Tuesday's Table

Township Trustees

The Walnut Township Trustees met Aug. 7. Township resident Robert Panian brought up an issue with storm water drainage.

Thurston Walnut Fire Chief Jim Hite reported on personnel, equipment issues, hose and ladder tests, and station repairs. Mike Berry reported on permits issued in July, violation letters that were sent, phone calls, appeals and variance requests. Road Supervisor Tim Morris reported that road projects are finished for the year. He also reported on the Neighborhood Revitalization Projects at Fairfield Beach, the new truck to be ready in September, and the work on mowing that is in progress.

 Other items included the water damage to the second floor, updating the web site, positive tests in the township for West Nile Virus, and the annexation of the Hallam property into the Village of Millersport.  A resolution concerning fire department inspection fees of commercial properties was approved.

The next meeting of the trustees will be held at 7 p.m. Sept. 4 in the township office.
