LOUDONVILLLE - You can sleep in the castle or now in the stable.

Friday afternoon, a crowd gathered for a ribbon cutting at The Stables at Landoll's Mohican Castle, a $1 million, 14-suite expansion at the wooded lodging site on Township Road 3352 south of Loudonville.

The new building, which is modeled after a horse stable, offers seven king suites with sofa beds and seven double queen suites. All the rooms are double Jacuzzi tubs and double showers, double vanities.

"We just had a need for it," Jimmy Landoll, who serves as general manager, said. "We were fully booked every Friday and Saturday and we had a lot of big weddings which needed more rooms. It was in the original plans back in 2002 to add up to 35 rooms."

The 14-additional suites complement the existing castle/hotel, restaurant and large outdoor pavilion on the 1,100-acre estate, an initial dream of Jim Landoll and Marta Landoll, which has continued to grow.

At the 1 p.m. ribbon cutting, Loudonville Mayor Steve Stricklen said, “Landoll’s Mohican Castle is a unique destination for our area. Visitors from all over the world are coming here. They spend their money here and that keeps jobs in the area. The castle has always been a friend to Loudonville and we couldn’t be happier for them.”

The suites in The Stables are named after ancestors of the Landoll and Myers (Marta’s maiden name) families. With names like Courtenay and Rittenhouse guests will enjoy breathtaking views.

“Our guests will not lose anything by staying in The Stables,” Jimmy Landoll said. “All of our King Suites overlook a glacial gorge. The color in the fall will be amazing. The Queen Suites look out into the forest and all of the rooms have access to outdoor seating on the back patio.”

Jimmy Landoll said that the growth still isn’t over as new jobs have been created and a brand new outdoor pavilion was also added this year. Looking forward in the next few years, the hope is to add a new restaurant that would include a larger event space.

Lt. Gov. Mary Taylor also came to help celebrate the occasion.

"With this expansion of 14 suites, utilizing local vendors and contractors, the investment of over $1 million in an established business model shows leadership, teamwork and a dream becoming reality.” Taylor also presented the Landoll family a special recognition from Gov. John Kasich and herself on behalf of the State of Ohio.

State Rep. Darrell Kick also attended the ribbon cutting.

Kathy Goon, executive director of the Mohican Area Growth Foundation and Ashland Area Economic Development, said she believes the castle is seeing just the beginning of a long-term growth strategy, “The travel industry in Ashland County has grown 17 percent in the last two years. In a location that thrives on travel, the castle’s 14 additional suites will be kept full of guests who will help keep the area growing for a long time to come.”

Landoll’s Mohican Castle will host a Wedding & Castle Open House on July 28. Free and open to the public, tours of the new suites will be available from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The castle is also available for group, corporate, and private events.
