Meeting of MPs, Council Leaders and Chief Executives
Earlier today South Northamptonshire MP Andrea Leadsom, alongside other Northants MPs, attended a meeting of Leaders and Chief Executives from councils across the county to discuss ongoing unitary preparations.
The working assumption is that two unitaries – West and North – will be established to replace the current multi-tiered structure of district, borough and county councils.
Andrea said:
“It is absolutely key that taxpayers get the best possible services whilst delivering on value for money. This is at the heart of what we are all striving to achieve, and it was great to see all elected members working together to get the best outcome.
“A number of innovative suggestions were made that will be looked at in more detail, and I am clear I will do what I can to support the transition to unitaries.”
Cllr Ian McCord, Leader of South Northamptonshire Council, said:
“All councillors are working hard to collaborate and to come up with a proposal that gives the best services for our residents by the end of August 2018.
“Progress is being made, and I look forward to further discussions.
“I would encourage everyone to share their views on the unitary proposals through the consultation at www.futurenorthants.co.uk, which closes on Sunday 22nd July 2018.”
