Sad news for Sephora fans in the U.K. and the Netherlands: It looks as if customers from those countries will no longer be able to shop from Sephora's U.S. site. As Cosmopolitan UK first reported, based on a post by Instagram account @fyi_beauty, Sephora customers in the U.K. and the Netherlands are reportedly being redirected to Sephora France's website when they try to access Sephora's U.S. website.

Customers who noticed have tweeted at Sephora on Twitter, which responded, attributing the change to data protection rules in the European Union. "Due to recently enacted data privacy regulations, Sephora clients in the UK and Netherlands will now be directed to Sephora France’s website, http://Sephora.fr," the reply reads. "Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause!"

In a statement to Allure, Sephora confirmed the change: “Due to recently enacted data privacy regulations, Sephora clients in the UK and Netherlands will now be directed to Sephora France’s website, Sephora.fr,” a rep said.

While this might not seem like a big deal to those of us in the U.S., this causes some issues for customers in the U.K. and the Netherlands, which don't have their own Sephora sites or stores. According to Cosmopolitan UK, not only does Sephora France fail to stock many of Sephora's U.S. brands, but Sephora France also has a completely different points system. This means, Cosmo UK reported, that beauty points accumulated on Sephora's U.S. site will not be transferable to Sephora's France site.

"Those who have spent thousands of pounds and reached VIB Rouge status have had their points/accounts revoked and are unable to redeem any points accumulated - all with no warning!" @fyi_beauty wrote in the post.
