A 6-month-old boy was found with serious burns more than an hour after his mother reported him kidnapped, and he later died. Now a Louisiana police department is investigating the mystery surrounding his disappearance and death.Police in Natchitoches say the mother reported she was attacked Tuesday night by two people who banged on her door.She said they sprayed her with a chemical she believed to be Mace when she opened the door."She immediately fled the residence to get away from the attackers and, upon circling back, discovered the baby missing," a press release obtained by The Alexaandria Town Talk reads. More than an hour later police received a call about a fire. "I just seen it on fire. I didn't see nobody or nothing," she said. "I just thought some kids might have set it on fire or something. I had called the police and told them to hurry up and send somebody to put the fire out before it spreads." "And this morning I found out it was a baby," Johnson said. Johnson said police told residents not to approach the fire and she wonders if the outcome might have been different if someone found the child sooner."Maybe they could have saved the baby or something, you know?" she asked. Susan Straughn, the great-grandmother of the victim, told KALB that the news is heard to hear and that the infant was the only child of the mother.
