Sex offender dies weeks after being brutally beaten by fellow inmate
Detectives in Florida say a sex offender has died a month after being brutally beaten by a fellow inmate accused of killing a pregnant mother.
WFLA reports 53-year-old James Mills and 41-year-old Charles Allen got into an argument about a television remote on June 18 in the Pinellas County Jail. Deputies say Allen struck Mills in the face, causing him to fall and hit his head on the concrete floor.
Mills was taken to the hospital, where he was unable to speak and relying on a feeding tube. Four weeks from when he first suffered his injuries, Mills died.
An autopsy will be used to determine the official cause of death.
Allen was charged with one count of aggravated battery in connection with the incident earlier this month, but additional charges are possible.
