BRAAMFONTEIN, SOUTH AFRICA – JULY 21: Economic Freedom Fighter (EFF) leader Julius Malema during an interview about the party turning four years old at on July 21, 2017 in Braamfontein, South Africa. Malema said, the EFF and African National Congress (ANC) should be working together but what stands in between is the institutionalized corruption by the governing party.

This week has been full of scintillating political drama and nothing has been more interesting than Jacques Pauw’s recent exchange with Julius Malema.

Drawing from the punches that have been thrown by the two, we have compiled a list of five things we have learned from Pauw about Julius Malema.

Julius Malema flip-flops on his word sometimes

Some people were aware of how Malema condemned the decision of the EFF’s chairperson, Advocate Dali Mpofu, to represent Tom Moyane in the Nugent inquiry.

However, it didn’t become apparent as to why, two weeks later, he came out in support of his comrade’s decision until Pauw’s Twitter blast a few weeks ago.

According to Pauw, the move by Malema to publicly declare his support of Mpofu’s move was to protect his private interests and tighten the relationship he has with notorious cigarette smugglers.

Juju’s funder is, in fact, Kevin Phillips

Since the famed author name-dropped Malema and the EFF’s funder, thousands of people probably have “Adriano Mazzotti” in their search history.

However, we have since learned through Pauw’s open letter that he, in fact, acknowledged that he had made an error. It was not Mazzotti who was directly involved in bailing Malema out of his hefty tax bill.

It was his close business partner, Kyle Phillips, a man he runs an independent tobacco company with, Carnilinx.

This, according to Pauw, was revealed by Malema’s own attorney in 2015 in an interview he did with the Sunday Times newspaper.

Adriano Mazzotti had politicians in his pocket

When the name was dropped by Pauw, most people who have not read his bestselling book, The President’s Keeper, were not familiar with it.

However, it appears that Mazzotti has been working right in our faces this whole time, just as Geppetto pulling the strings of politicians like Juju himself and Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma.

According to Pauw, the EFF and some ANC officials have benefited greatly from Mazzotti’s illegal money. Tom Moyane too, who is currently under investigation, has been linked with the Italian cigarette smuggler.

It raises questions about how many times Mazzotti may have influenced SARS’ policies at the expense of tax paying citizens
