Match Report: Raiders thrash Cowboys in dominant display

A second half masterclass has seen the Raiders enjoy a comfortable 38-12 win over the North Queensland Cowboys at GIO Stadium on Saturday night.

A hat-trick to winger Michael Oldfield was enough to give the Raiders back-to-back victories on a cold night in Canberra.

The Raiders scored 24 unanswered points in the second half as the short kicking game from halves Sam Williams and Aidan Sezer proved too much for the Cowboys.

The Raiders got off to a perfect start with a cross-field kick in the fourth minute from Williams finding Jordan Rapana to open the scoring for the Raiders.

With just over 11 minutes on the clock, the Raiders would grab another with a lovely Josh Hodgson cut-out pass finding Jarrod Croker who tipped on to Oldfield to go over untouched for his first.

The Cowboys managed to hit back midway through the first half with Te Maire Martin going straight through the line and linking up with fullback Lachlan Coote to score under the posts.

A scare for the Raiders when Jarrod Croker was taken from the field with ten minutes remaining in the first half with a leg injury and he failed to return.

With his first touch replacing Croker, Blake Austin got on the end of a Josh Hodgson grubber to touch down just inches inside the dead ball line.

The kick off from Kyle Feldt found the sideline giving North Queensland an attacking set which would result in points.

A perfect Johnathan Thurston grubber was pounced on by Gavin Cooper to score out wide and reduce the gap to two points at the break.

With fifteen minutes remaining in the match and a fortuitous bounce off a Williams grubber forcing an error from Coote allowing Oldfield to grab his second try of the match and extend the lead to eight.

Oldfield grabbed his third just minutes later slicing through the defence inside his own ten metre line and going the distance to give the Raiders a 14 point lead late in the second half.

It didn't take long for the Raiders to grab another with a pinpoint Sezer grubber being fumbled by Antonio Winterstein giving Rapana the easiest of tries.

A show and go from Williams saw him break the line and find his halves partner Sezer to cap off the performance with a try at the death.

Raiders 38 (Tries: Oldfield 3, Rapana 2, Austin, Sezer Goals: Croker 0/1, Sezer 5/6) def Cowboys 12 (Tries: Coote, Cooper Goals: Thurston 2/2)
