Signs urging Omaha residents to report 'illegal aliens' spotted in Dundee
Posters have been spotted in the Omaha metro area urging residents to report 'illegal aliens.' However, there are few answers about who posted them.
An alley near 48th and Cass in Dundee is among the places posters can be spotted. Despite KETV NewsWatch 7 knocking on doors and driving around two different neighborhoods, no one has come forward to say they support the signs.
“It’s harassment,” said Rose Cano, who opposes the signs. “It’s (encouraging) people to start racial profiling.
Omaha’s immigrant legal center said the signs are a problem.
“Is the fact that somebody is speaking another language (proof) that somebody is (not) a U.S. citizen? Absolutely not. And that's the kind of risk that you run when you start taking this type of matter into your own hands and you don't have the training and the knowledge.”
Elizabeth Dillon concurs: “We don’t mind anyone coming here from any country, but just do it right,” she said.
Dillon believes in stronger border control, but not the signs.
“I'm not going to go out and search and report somebody,” she said.
Dillon also supports immigrants and believes there should be a better process to live and work in the United States.
ICE officials told KETV NewsWatch 7 they had nothing to do with the signs, as did the Douglas County Republican Party.
