A pair of local wrestlers were among the country’s best in the final edition of the National Girls High School Wrestling Rankings for the 2017-18 season.
Joessie Gonzales, a recent graduate Snohomish High School, was ranked ninth at 127 pounds, down three spots from her slot in the April 25 poll.
Kiley Hubby, a rising junior at Glacier Peak High School, slid down seven spots to eighth at 152 pounds.
Both Gonzales and Hubby won state championships at Mat Classic XXX in February, and each has been busy competing outside of the high school season.
Gonzales finished second in the women’s Cadet division in freestyle at the Western Regional Championships in Las Vegas in April, and swept the freestyle and Greco-Roman titles at the Washington State Wrestling Association Championships in May.
Hubby won the Cadet folkstyle national championship at 152 pounds in March.
Gonzales and Hubby will also be competing at the Cadet/Junior National Championships beginning later this month in Fargo, North Dakota.
