The Huawei P20 Pro is regarded as one of the best camera smartphones around, and it seems like an upcoming update will boost its camera even more. The upcoming update will improve the phone’s video recording capabilities, which are currently lacking behind still image shooting. The Huawei P20 Pro will, according to a new report that surfaced on XDA, soon get an ultra slow-motion mode that will let you record video content in up to 960 frames per second automatically. That update should become available later this year, though we still do not know when exactly.

In addition to the ultra slow motion recording, that update will also bring a changed zoom interface, while it will also allow you to swipe in the camera viewfinder in order to smoothly zoom in and out. Some of you probably already know that the LG V30 sports something similar to this, the so-called ‘Point Zoom’ feature. In any case, the Samsung Galaxy S9, S9 Plus, Xperia XZ2, and XZ2 Compact feature 960fps ultra slow-motion recording at the moment, though Samsung’s offerings are capped at 720p resolution, while Sony’s devices can shoot 960fps ultra slow motion content at fullHD resolution. The Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus will automatically choose where in a particular video to slow down motion, and truth be said, that feature doesn’t work all that well, and it would be preferable to have some manual control over this, like OnePlus offers with the OnePlus 6, though the OnePlus 6 does not offer 960fps ultra slow-motion video, though, it caps out at 480p.

It remains to be seen what will the Huawei P20 Pro’s implementation look like once the update arrives, but hopefully Huawei will let us choose when to slow down video on our own, instead of opting to do it itself. The Huawei P20 Pro was announced earlier this year along with the Huawei P20, and it’s the company’s flagship smartphone. The Huawei P20 Pro features three cameras on the back, all of which offers OIS and all of them are covered by Leica’s lenses. The Huawei P20 Pro is made out of metal and glass, it’s fueled by the Kirin 970 64-bit octa-core SoC, and it ships with 8GB of RAM.
