NEWARK - No injuries were reported from a Saturday night house fire.

Newark Fire assistant chief John Clouse said crews were called to the 100 block of W. Locust St. just after 9 p.m. when a passerby spotted a fire in the first floor of a multi-resident home.

"There was a small fire in the front room of the first floor," Clouse said. "We got here fairly quickly and got it knocked down quickly. There was not much damage."

Clouse said the preliminary investigation indicates the apartment is vacant. He added residents in an adjoining apartment in the back of the residence evacuated without incident.

The investigation into a cause is ongoing.
