FREMONT - The board of education has approved minor changes to the dress code for Fremont City Schools, allowing students to wear solid color shirts, white pants and white skirts and capri pants in addition to spirit wear approved by building principals.

During a special board meeting on Tuesday, members voted to allow students to wear solid color quarter-zip fleece, nylon or cotton pullovers. Hoods are still prohibited.

Students can wear any solid color shirt, turtle neck, sweater/vest, and crew-neck sweatshirt.

Shirts should still have collars and buttons.

Bottoms that will be permitted at school include white pants, capri pants and shorts, in addition to the khaki, black, navy, gray and purple pants currently allowed.

All bottoms are to have no side zippers, no leg pockets and cannot drag on the floor.

In addressing the desire for students to wear additional bottoms, the board voted to allow students to white skirts, jumpers and polo dresses.

Shorts and skirts worn must be within three inches of the knee.

Shoes that tie must be worn at all times and they must be close-toed, according to the school.

Students in violation of the dress code could be subject to detention or other punishment.
