Georgia Southern to Host Celebration of Life For Coach Jack Stallings in September

Event to be held Friday, Sept. 7 in Statesboro

STATESBORO - The Georgia Southern Athletics Department will host a Celebration of Life for Coach Jack Stallings, the long-time head coach of the Eagle baseball program who passed away this week in Tallahassee, Florida. He was 87 years old.

The event will be held in Statesboro on Friday, Sept. 7, the night before the Eagles' home football game against UMass and in conjunction with the Hall of Fame Weekend. Friends, family, co-workers, players and fans are welcome as the life and legacy of Coach Stallings will be celebrated on the field which bears his name at J.I. Clements Stadium. More details on the event will be announced at a later time.

Stallings served as the head coach of the Eagle baseball squad from 1976-99, posting an 859-582-5 record at Georgia Southern. He led the Eagles to 10 conference regular season titles and five conference tournament titles, helping the Eagles make their second College World Series appearance in 1990. He was also the head coach at Wake Forest and Florida State, winning over 1,200 career games.

Funeral services for Stallings will be held Tuesday, June 26  at 11 a.m. at Bevis Funeral Home, 200 John Knox Road, in Tallahassee. The family will receive friends at the funeral home in Florida one hour prior to service.
