An Amber Alert for a 15-year-old Kansas City girl was canceled Friday after police said circumstances of her disappearance changed.
Brajaean Sledge disappeared Thursday evening after police were called to her grandfather's home in the 2700 block of Elmwood Street on a reported shooting. Officers discovered Sledge's grandfather had been shot.
Sledge's grandfather is in serious but stable condition at a hospital, police said.
Police said late Friday afternoon that they could no longer confirm that Sledge had been abducted.
"We believe she is in the company of a person of interest, Anthony King, black male, 18 years old, 5’ 08” 140 pounds. King is a person of interest in several crimes regarding this incident. We are still very concerned for Sledge’s safety, and she is still considered missing and endangered. We are still actively looking for her," police said in a news release.
Anyone who has seen Sledge or King is asked to call 911.
