Hello Movie Maniacs! So many of you have been awaiting the arrival of a new release this weekend.  Let’s get our dino on!

New in theaters this weekend:

JURASSIC WORLD:  FALLEN KINGDOM (UNIVERSAL PICTURES) – When the island’s dormant volcano begins roaring to life, there is a campaign to rescue the remaining dinosaurs from this extinction-level event.  Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard are back in their starring roles.  Jeff Goldblum returns 21 years – last seen in 1997’s –  THE LOST WORLD:  JURASSIC PARK … and, 25 years after 1993’s original JURASSIC PARK.  Goldblum’s role is small but, impactful!  Just for record keeping or if you’re new to JURASSIC … this is the fifth film in the the JURASSIC PARK franchise and the second film in the JURASSIC WORLD trilogy.

Also on screens this weekend for you, the legend that is Mister Rogers … the documentary WON’T YOU BE MY NEIGHBOR (FOCUS FEATURES) This is an exploration of the life, lessons, and legacy of iconic children’s television host, Fred Rogers of Mister Rogers Neighborhood.   This film is receiving a lot of acclaim, so get your cardigans and sneakers and get into the theatre!

Tops at the box office last weekend:
INCREDIBLES 2 takes the top – this is no surprise at all!  OCEAN’S 8 stays strong at 2!!!  And, TAG, the movie about childhood friends who still play the schoolyard game, debuted at number 3, I had a great time watching this film.  The cast of Jon Hamm, Jeremy Renner, and Ed Helms lead the pack in the this fast paced, super fun, escapism flick!

Brand new on Blu-Ray this week
PACIFIC RIM: UPRISING (UNIVERSAL PICTURES) – there is a new generation of pilots, including rival against a new threat.  John Boyega, Scott Eastwood, Charlie Day, and Springfield’s very own Cailee Spaeny star in this film.  In my humble opinion … this movie was really pretty good and did not get enough time on the big screen – it was a little overshadowed by BLACK PANTHER.  The performances in PACIFIC RIM are rather good and the big screen debut or Spaeny is something to be very proud of!!!

Locally:
The Outdoor Movies At Founders Park in Downtown Springfield are such a great experience!  Friday night is family night this week with PETER RABBIT!  And, Saturday night is date night with one of Reese Witherspoon’s best – SWEET HOME ALABAMA!  Movies begin at sundown.  Admission is free!  Much more info and to see the Summer schedule go to parkboard.org/movies
