Residents are being encouraged to show their support for veterans and serving personnel when South Northamptonshire Council (SNC) raises an Armed Forces Day flag above its offices on Monday, 25 June 2018.

The annual event is part of the build up to Armed Forces Day (Saturday, 30 June 2018), which recognises the work done by the country’s armed forces.

SNC members and staff join councils up and down the country in marking the occasion, and look forward to welcoming members of the public who wish to join them.

SNC Chairman Cllr Richard Dallyn said: “Every year, we quietly and respectfully gather with members of the local branches of the Royal British Legion to remember the duties servicemen and women have performed on our behalf, and to remind ourselves of the duty we have to them.

“I hope as many people as possible join us to show that support for our armed forces goes far beyond the council and is an integral part of our communities.”

At 10:15am on Monday, 25 June, members of the public are invited to gather on and around Bury Mount, Moat Lane, in Towcester for a short ceremony following the raising of the Armed Forces Day flag above the council’s offices at The Forum.

In 2013, all the local authorities in Northamptonshire including SNC, signed the Armed Forces Community Covenant (AFCC).

The AFCC is a voluntary statement of mutual support between the civilian community and its local Armed Forces Community.

It is intended to complement the Armed Forces Covenant, which outlines the moral obligation between the Nation, the Government and the Armed Forces at the local level. For more information, visit - www.southnorthants.gov.uk/armedforcescommunitycovenant.
