Ryan Walker is officially a member of the San Francisco Giants organization.
The Arlington High School graduate, who was drafted by the Giants two weeks ago, officially signed with the team Sunday night. The amount of Walker’s signing bonus was not disclosed.
Walker, a right-handed pitcher, was selected in the 31st round of this year’s draft out of Washington State University.
As a senior this spring he made 23 relief appearances, going 4-4 with a 5.24 ERA and five saves, walking 25 and striking out 47 in 46.1 innings. Walker pitched the final two innings of a combined no-hitter on April 22 in a 5-0 victory over Santa Clara.
Walker had yet to be assigned to a minor-league affiliate. However, there’s a chance he’ll end up with the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes of the short-season single-A Northwest League. Salem-Keizer plays a five-game series at Everett Memorial Stadium against the AquaSox on July 11-15.
Everett Rowing association hosting UW
The University of Washington men’s rowing team, which won the James Ten Eyck Trophy as the overall points winner at Intercollegiate Rowing Association National Championship Regatta earlier this month, is coming to Snohomish County as a guest of the Everett Rowing Association.
The Huskies are headed the the Henley Royal Regatta on July 4-8, which is raced on the River Thames. Washington usually practices on Lake Washington, but because Henley takes place on a river the Huskies wanted to get some practice time on a river, and ERA practices on the Snohomish River.
The Huskies will be training at 7-9 a.m. on Tuesday and Thursday. Among those vying for a position in the eight-man boat is ERA alum Chase Barrows.

Last year’s tournament featured 73 players from 20 high schools, including 13 who participated at this year’s state tournaments (seven medalists). For more information visit the tournament’s website at www.snohomishsummersmash.com.
