GNCC vs Evenley
The weather for the first visit of Evenley first team for many years saw dry but cloudy and decent for cricket, but with some drizzle forecast later, this saw the Evenley skipper elect to bowl on a wicket that looked hard and fast.
The young Evenley openers steamed in and the normal Norton openers Bodily and Baker started confidently, however the Norton side this week was somewhat makeshift and the loss of Bodily (17) saw Bowmer senior in at 3, an immediate misjudgement saw him not only run out but injured too and this brought in Bristow.
Bristow (22) showed flashes of control but the loss of Baker and Taylor saw the end of Norton’s normal batting line up and only stout resistance from Hubbard and Holton saw Norton reach the heady heights of 94 all out.
Evenley started batting before tea but a shower took the teams off, tea was taken with Evenley 15-1.
The loss of Bowmer snr from the attack did not help Norton after tea, even though Bowmer jnr bowled really well without luck the makeshift bowling attack struggled to maintain run pressure, Patterson looking comfortable and anything drifting to leg stump was comfortably taken for runs.
Patterson (35) fell to Holton (1-5) with only a few runs needed but eventually Walker took Evenley to the win with 4 wickets down and plenty of time.
Norton a few short of the normal team well beaten.
