LG Q7, Q7+ debut with 5.5-inch FHD+ display, IP68 Certification in Korea

LG has unveiled the pricing of their latest mid-range offerings, the LG Q7 and the LG Q7+, in Korea, today. The two smartphones were launched last month as the successors to the previous year’s Q6 and Q6+, which featured an 18:9 display, and facial recognition but lacked a fingerprint scanner. LG has addressed the issue and has included a fingerprint scanner on both the Q7 devices.

LG Q7 & Q7+

The LG Q7 and Q7+ sport a similar 5.5-inch FHD+ IPS LCD FullVision display with a resolution of 2160×1080 pixels. The 18:9 screen has a pixel density of 442 PPI. Powering the two phones is the Snapdragon 450 chipset with Adreno 506 GPU. The LG Q7 comes with 3 GB RAM and 32 GB storage whereas the Q7+ comes with 4 GB RAM and 64 GB internal storage. The storage on both the phones can be expanded up to 2 TB via a microSD card. The phones run on Android 8.0 Oreo, with LG’s UI on top.

Both the phones come with a single rear camera, with the Q7 sporting a 13 MP sensor, whereas the Q7+ packs in a 16 MP unit. To the front, both the phones come with a 5 MP 100° super wide-angle selfie camera.

Unlike its predecessors, the Q7 duo come with a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, and as well as face unlock, for added security. Both phones pack in a 3000 mAh battery which supports fast charging. For connectivity, the Q7 and Q7+ come with 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth 4.2 LE, NFC, GPS/GLONASS, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n. The phones feature a USB Type-C port and 3.5mm headphone jack.

It comes with Hi-Fi audio, DTS:X 3D Surround. The Q7+ has an added advantage over the Q7, thanks to the inclusion of LG’s signature 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC. For added resilience, the Q7 and the Q7+ are MIL-STD-810G certified and are now IP68 certified Dust and waterproof.

Pricing and Availability of LG Q7 and Q7+

The Q7 will come in two colors – Aurora Black and Lavender Violet. The phone is priced at KRW 4,95,000 (USD 457/ INR 30,940 approx), while the Q7+ comes only in Morrocan Blue color with a price tag of KRW 5,70,000 (USD 526/ INR 35,628 approx). As for the availability in other markets, LG has started expanding the Q-series in other markets and is set to hit Europe in July followed by other markets, later this year.

But the real question is, Do the added premium features such as IP68, glass body and a Hi-Fi DAC beg for a premium price, despite the weak chipset?

  1. Chipset carries the performance of all other features so a weak chipset means only an average performance that too in normal usage but snapdragon 450 was quite popular when it was launched with it’s performance Bec. At that time this much features were not added, thanks
