Hold up ... Here's how to make Oreos at home

Cooking with Caitlin
Homemade Oreos are hard to stop eating.

With this recipe right here, we gift you with THE most popular dessert at CWC, the Restaurant ... (drum roll please) ... Homemade Oreos! (Tada!)

We serve them in a trio with a wide-mouthed cup of milk for dipping. But you might want to assemble just one a time, because once these babies are sandwiched together, they are impossible to resist.

Homemade Oreos

Cookies:

1 1/4 cups flour

1 1/4 cups sugar

1/2 cup cocoa powder

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon kosher salt

1/4 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 cup softened butter

2 eggs

Instructions:

1. In a large bowl, stir together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder and salt. Using your hands, incorporate the butter into the dry ingredients.

2. Next, add one egg, mixing with your hands, and then add the second egg, also with your hands, until the dough comes together in a big ball. (The dough will be sticky; your hands will be covered.)

3. Use a small ice cream scoop to scoop the dough onto a parchment-lined cookie sheet. Cover in plastic wrap and refrigerate.

4. When you are ready to bake, preheat the oven to 350 degrees and spread 12 cookies out evenly on a parchment-lined sheet.

5. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the centers of the cookies don't look moist anymore. Remove from the oven and let cool completely.

Cream:

1/2 stick butter-flavored shortening

1 stick softened butter

2 cups powdered sugar

vanilla extract

Instructions

1. Mix together the butter and shortening to a uniform consistency. Add the powdered sugar, a little at a time, until completely incorporated. Stir in vanilla to taste.

2. Transfer to a container and refrigerate until cookie assembly.
