Pair of local athletes honored at ESD banquet

Everett’s Megan Gordon and Jackson’s Daniel Arias win the 2018 Dwayne Lane’s Athletic Scholarships.

Megan Gordon of Everett High School and Daniel Arias of Jackson are the winners of the 2018 Dwayne Lane’s Athletic Scholarships.

The scholarships are awarded annually to two seniors in the Everett School District. Gordon and Arias were honored Thursday night at a banquet at Jackson High School. They each received a $2,500 scholarship.

Gordon, who carries a 3.45 grade-point average, was a member of the Seagulls’ girls soccer and softball teams. She served as a captain on both squads. She’s also a member of the National Torch Honor Society and served as a volunteer for Special Olympics and for the Boys & Girls Club’s Badges for Baseball Camp. She will attend Colorado Christian University.

Arias, who has a 3.43 GPA, played football and ran track for the Timberwolves. He capped his senior year of competition last weekend by winning the Class 4A state title in the 400 meters. He also serves as a volunteer with his church and with the Lynnwood Police Department. Arias will attend the University of Colorado this fall on a football scholarship.

Gordon and Arias were among 12 nominees for the Dwayne Lane scholarships. The other nominees included:

Brett Gillis (football, baseball), Caitlynn Daniel (soccer, basketball), Rana Sabra (swimming, tennis) and Yasin Alissa (football, wrestling) from Cascade High School; Rachel Klein-Christensen (wrestling, softball), Daniel Peterson (tennis, basketball, track) and Gabe Maggio (football, baseball) from Everett; and Jadyn Edwards (soccer), Samantha Mutolo (bowling, softball) and Tyler Thomas (football, track, swimming) from Jackson.
