Madiha Yousri, an Egyptian actress known for her iconic film roles, has died. She was 97.

The state MENA news agency says Ms. Yousri suffered age-related health problems and died late on Tuesday.

Hundreds of mourners, including prominent film figures, attended Ms. Yousri’s funeral, which was held Wednesday at a historic mosque in Cairo’s Sayedah Nafeesa district.

Prime Minister Sherif Ismail mourned Ms. Yousri’s passing and offered his condolences.

Ms. Yousri had more than 90 films to her name, dating back to the 1940s. She also starred in musicals featuring iconic Egyptian singers of the 20th century: Mohamed Abdel-Wahab, Abdel-Halim Hafez, Farid Al-Atrash and Mohamed Fawzy.

Born in 1921, Ms. Yousri was married three times. Two of her marriages were to film stars Mohamed Amin and Mr. Fawzy, with whom she co-starred in several movies.
