Kap Screen Recording macOS App Teaser

Kap is a fantastic macOS app for creating screen recordings on your Mac: it’s free to use (open-sourced) & comes with a lot of features not available in QuickTime’s screen recording mode.

What Features differentiate Kap from QuickTime?

Kap in version 2.0 already offers a lot of useful features, exceeding QuickTime as of my experiences:

  1. It’s made as standalone screen recording app – based on modern web technologies
  2. You can start new screen recordings instantly by pressing CMD+Shift+5 (remember this key command from taking screenshots?)
  3. You can specify an exact size of the recording (but still drag’n’drop & resize the recording area later)
  4. It offers a built-in “Hide desktop icons”-setting – I like this one a lot!
  5. It also offers a “Do Not Disturb”-mode – disabling any notifications during a recording
  6. You can show the mouse cursor but disable visible clicks from recordings (QuickTime can only do both or none)
  7. You can record in 60 FPS
  8. Export formats by default include: GIF, WebM, MP4 & APNG
  9. It’s pluggable with various third-party plugins, allowing quick sharing to many online services – such as giphy.com etc.
  10. It offers much more post-editing options, like changing the size, FPS and output format for the final recording-file

Check out the official website for Kap or it’s GitHub project page for reporting bugs, feature requests or just checking the development progress.
