Has any of our Morris Minor 1000 2dr 1964 found a remedy for tidying up these panels without replacing them from the usual sources? I like keeping the car as a Go not Show car but tidier would be better.

As long is the vinyl is not ripped or torn you should be able to carefully peal it off the backing and reglue it to the backing with a quality spray trim adhesive. Set the door card on a smooth flat surface and put a flat piece of plywood on top, weight it down with some heavy concrete blocks and let it dry. Make sure you also glue the folded over edges around the perimeter as well.

Replace manky board with 1/8th ply, could be 3mm these days.

Stick trim on new board with spray adhesive.

I ended up using black ABS sheet (4 or 5mm) that I bought at TAP Plastics, spray glued on WalMart carpet and stretchable fabric. They'd cut it roughly to size and I used the OEM clips to attach to the doors. I like ABS better than the plywood door skin; it's easy to work with using woodworking tools (jig saw, hole saws, files), fits snug, didn't ratte or warp. It's likely available in Toronto (at least) and inexpensive.

I also planned on doing the doors on my '69 Traveller using the original vinyl; it looked just as bad as yours - Split edges, crappy warped panels. Sold that car due to my bad health at the time.

Thank you for the pic and the idea of using ABS. How did you handle the transition from the stretchy fabric to the carpeting? It looks great.

The fabric I choose is thin and stretches in all directions,. I just asked to see things that met that general specification at a small town fabric store. It looks like flocking or velveteen. I just lapped the carpet over the stretchy fabric, not noticeable. I had a carpet store the bind edges on the "cheapo" carpet, same stuff as I used on the floor. That wasn't cheap; binding the edges cost a lot more than the carpet.

In hindsight, I bought 50' of iron on/ heat activated binding for use on the Traveller through an internet search. I was a good color match and inexpensive, I passed it along with the whole car's worth of restoration bitsl. I was concerned for the Traveler's vinyl panel edges, which were splitting. I didn't know how to lap that zero margin at the edges. Perhaps chamfering the edges to zero and slightly undersizing panels good glue would work with careful clamping. That car was to be restored, not resto-modified like my Pickup.

My normal was to stick thin foam to the outside of the board.
Using spray adhesive.

I stuck the finishing fabric to the back of the board.
I used Bostic type glue.
I thinned the Bostic with cellulose thinners to my choice.

I did exactly that with my 1960 four door saloon with a kit from Newton Commercial, all four door cards, front and rear seats in leather and carpets. I was extremely impressed with how well Newton replicated the materials and construction of these items, thus returning my car to exact factory original, It would now pass concours judging I believe.

Very nice, Moggy 1000 panelled set I build them regularly for the 61 to 62 models, So you have a Dulux set IE the leather-faced set,
I know Newton well there a great company, Expensive but great, I build these but you would be able to have a full leather set as opposed to your leather set which is infact only leather on the faces and the rest is infact vinyl, I believe they charge 2000 for these sets, and then you have import charges etd, I charge around 1200 as I work for myself and it is my passion, They have overheads, Your car is very nice, I have just finished a Morris 8 bench set same colour as yours and leather faced for Jeff of Bath classic cars, I build a lot of show interiors for people and supply many classic car renovators, I am just starting a full leather 100% for a Morris traveller for a fella in the UK then im onto a Moggy 1000 convertible same as yours I believe,

Here are a few pics to hand, I have 1000s of pics from all the Morris sets I have built, I only build Morris,

I really like your car, Its a passion

HAPPY MOTORING

Bobby, Great work on your upholstery. These narrow pleated ones look like they would be for the 1957-58 cars. Both of my Minors are 1960 models, a convertible, family owned since new, and a black four door acquired from the original owner 7 years ago. The convertible has locally made leather seats also in red, done before I became aware of Newton Commercial. The four door has Newton seat covers, door cards and carpet. I do not recall paying any duty when I bought these items about 6 years ago. Can't recall exactly the price (the pound was relatively low at the time) but as they say the price is forgotten but the quality remains long after.

Keep up the good work.
