Marvel Studios Taps Two Writers For Their Upcoming 'Eternals' Film

It looks like Marvel Studios is sticking to their tried and true formula for hiring writers for their films. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel Studios has hired two relatively unknown writers to pen the script for “The Eternals.”

Matthew and Ryan Firpo, the writers behind the upcoming film “Ruin,” have been tapped to adapt the Jack Kirby cosmic superhero series. Their script for “Ruin” gained the duo huge recognition as it was chosen to be part of 2017’s Black List and was quickly snatched up for production, with Gal Gadot set to star. So, it appears that Marvel Studios took notice and quickly hired the young writers to take a stab at what could be the next big space adventure for the company.

Marvel Studios has a track record of hiring young writers for their projects. If you look at their films, especially post-“The Avengers,” Marvel has utilized a de facto “bullpen” of relatively unknown writers to come in and work on a variety of projects. And clearly, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

“The Eternals” is one of a few projects that are in development by Marvel Studios but hasn’t been formally announced. The comic series follows a race of genetically engineered godlike beings. The characters have never been A-listers in the Marvel Universe, so it’s the perfect comic to really update/modify for the big screen.

Marvel Studios is on a bit of a role in 2018, to say the least. “Black Panther” and “Avengers: Infinity War” could very well finish the year as the top 2 films worldwide. The studio also is gearing up for their third 2018 release, “Ant-Man and the Wasp,” which isn’t expected to do ‘Infinity War’-like numbers, but should still be one of the biggest releases of the summer.

We don’t expect to get official word on any new franchises until after ‘Avengers 4’ is released in May 2019.
