Hi, has anyone come across a close ratio nuffield box for a low light. I picked up a couple of spare gearboxes while away on our last holiday and upon inspection one was fitted with close ratio gears [ fist motion shaft and lay gear ]. 1st gear is very low in the standard box anyway so the first 3 gears is about 15% higher witch should be fantastic. Have a look at the pics. If anyone has any info on this i would be grateful.

Have you heard of a Series E Morris Mark?
I can't remember much about the ratios, but
perhaps, maybe, it could give some clues.

Hi Mike, thanks for the reply. Yes as far as I know the E series ratios are the same as the minor except for the diff of course . I'v been thinking though that maybe the input shaft is from the 3 speed morris 8 with a laygear made up by machining off the larger gear and prepping and welding on of a morris 8 gear in it's place to make up a matching laygear. If i'm right then this is pretty clever.I don't have a morris 8 3 speed input shaft to do a tooth count but hopefully someone can chime in. The tooth count on a standard minor input shaft is16 and 18 on this one. laygear is standard 34 and close ratio one 32 teeth.
Thanks Mark.
Thanks Mark.
