Organizers: Saturday Taste of Granville could be sold-out event

Submitted

Granville Rotary’s fourth annual Taste of Granville Saturday on the Bryn Du Mansion grounds appears headed for a third straight sellout.

With a promising weather forecast of temperatures around 60 degrees and no rain, leaders of the Sponsoring Granville Rotary Club say that a few tickets may be available at the door as the event heads for its third straight sellout.

However, that’s a big “maybe,” they said.

“The weather is turning, so we suggest buying tickets now and not to wait,” said Rotarian Andy Smutylo, event chairman. “Regardless of the weather, the event is 80 percent indoors with three buildings, and each building will have food and beverages.”

There may also be four VIP tables with seating for eight were available,” he said.

Tickets and VIP tables may be reserved online at tasteofgranville.org.

The event runs from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Bryn Du Mansion, its field house and its carriage house. Food and beverages will be available in all three.

The event features a wide variety of local restaurants, specialty food retailers, caterers and food service providers. The club will also utilize outdoor spaces to host a Food Truck Rodeo.

Matesich Distributing will again feature regional craft beers in all three venues, and the popular Stella Artois Airstream will again be in attendance.

“It’s the only one of its kind,” Smutylo said. “This airstream is in high demand across the U.S., and we got it again for the second year in a row. We got lucky in securing this again.”

“We will have Stella Artois Chalices for purchase with a portion of the sales being donated to water.org,” Smutylo added.

Wine vendors will include Buckeye Lake Winery, Glazer’s, Heidelberg, Camelot Cellars, Three Oaks Vineyard and Cutting Edge Selections.

The event has commitments from several local food vendors including Denison University, Licking Memorial Health Systems, Buxton Inn, Day y Noche, Donato’s, Granville Inn, Mai Chau, Moe’s Original BBQ, Snapshots, Bailey’s Drive Inn Donuts, Black Radish Creamery/Ohio Cheese Guild, Coco Cat Bakery and Chocolates, Country Fudge, Happy Goat Gluten-Free Baked Goods & Bulk Food, Granville Farmers Market and Canal Market District, ToddleSquat Bakery, Uncle Giant, WoodFired Pizza, and Steamroller Bagel.

The event’s fundraising silent auction is focusing for the first time on local Granville artists, featuring works by 10 local artists: Kathy Anderson, Jeff Watkins, Paula Colman, Dale Slack, Ginny Sharkey, Jodi Lavely, Bob Procida, Laura Atchison, Spencer Pearson and Charles A. Peterson.

Also in the silent auction will be a Mexico Vacation package that includes eight days and seven nights at Puerto Vallarta. The resort carries an AAA Five Diamond Award, the highest recognition given by AAA regarding excellence by restaurants or hotels/resorts, say donors Michele and Kraig Koester of Michele’s Real Deals on Home Décor, of Granville. Also on the auction table will be one hardcover news photo anthology by Charles A. Peterson, retired Granville Sentinel editor, entitled “A Day at a Time in Granville, Ohio.” The photos covering community, school and sports news were published in The Sentinel and mainly represent the decade of 1996 through 2005.

The event will also feature live music in the Bryn Du Mansion.

This is the fourth year for this event, which attracted more than 650 attendees in 2017, selling out and raising almost $23,000 for the Granville Rotary Foundation. The Granville Rotary Foundation supports local scholarships and service projects, including a new legacy project to be announced soon.

This year’s fundraising goal is $25,000. Granville Rotary directs 100 percent of the proceeds to support the club’s numerous and varied service projects, including five college scholarships, Granville middle- and high-school Students of the Month, Junior Achievement Biz Town for fifth-graders, Granville Rec District’s Concerts on the Green, inbound/outbound international exchange students, international projects including most recently eighteen water wells in Haiti, and Community Shred-It Days.

Recent Rotary Community Legacy Projects include the Bicentennial Clock at Granville Village Hall, Frazier-Sargent Rotary Softball Complex at Raccoon Valley Park, and the Raccoon Creek Bridge connecting the Evans bike path to Raccoon Valley Park.
