Sprite Sg. body 1965 1275 engine. had engine complete rebuild. Doing the same as before. When engine heats up, it smokes heavily out of exhaust. After diagnosis, the oil seems to becoming from the pcv valve. The valve fills up with oil and therefore it is released into the manifold and into the engine and smokes like hell. Any ideas what is causing and a fix.

Bill,
I also had oil blowing from the timing cover canister into the PCV valve, and lots of blue smoke after a rebuild with new pistons and rings. I tried several things without success: alternate PCV valves, an oil separator, and always oil getting into the intake manifold.
I researched this symptom on the MGexp site, and there are several useful write-ups. I understand that my new rings are not fully seated yet with this fresh rebuild. It is excessive crankcase pressure forcing oil from the timing cover into the PCV. I put too much oil onto my rings when I was installing the pistons.
.
After calling up the British motor specialist who first gave me the ring oiling instructions, he told me to remove the PVC valve, plug the intake manifold hole, and vent the timing cover canister to the atmosphere. His advice was to wait for a few thousand miles before hooking up the PCV system. One or two thousand miles of driving will bed in the rings. Perhaps less than 1,000 miles since I push this 1275 rather hard.
I have been doing that for a few weeks. So far, this is working. Smooth idle, lots of power, clean spark plugs, and no oil burning.
