ZANESVILLE - Muskingum County Engineer Doug Davis was found dead at his home Wednesday, according to Sheriff Matt Lutz.

Muskingum County Engineer Doug Davis

Davis was the subject of an investigation by State Auditor David Yost's office that began in December 2017.

According to a March 15, press release from Yost's office, members of the auditor's Public Integrity Assurance Team began investigating the engineer's office after a complaint was filed in December 2017.

The complaint alleged improprieties involving the engineer's office. The auditor's Special Audit Task Force, comprised of senior staff in the auditor's office, reviewed evidence gathered by PIAT and voted to begin a preliminary investigation and audit.

Davis was elected to the position of county engineer in 2004, and took office the following year. In 2016 he was elected to his fourth term.

Lutz said no further information surrounding the death of Davis is available.

The Times Recorder will provide more information as it becomes available.
