Roundup: Ross tennis shuts out Sandusky

Fremont Ross 5, Sandusky 0

Nils Nolte and Ethan Moyer didn't drop a game at No. 2 doubles Wednesday as Ross earned a nonconference shutout.

Lucas Cronin returns a shot Wednesday in Fremont Ross's win over Sandusky.

Trevor Weickert (No. 1), Sam Long (No. 2) and Drew Miller also won in straight sets for the Little Giants (8-2, 2-2). Alex Thatcher and Lucas Cronin lost only one game at No. 1 doubles.

Softball

Oak Harbor 10, Huron 0 (6 innings)

Ashley Riley hit her sixth home run of the season and notched her 11th win as Oak Harbor won the Sandusky Bay Conference Bay Division matchup.

"I'm focused on having fun," Riley said. "I got in the weight room a lot more, even with my other sports. I focused on hitting the ball really hard. Hit the center and hit it hard."

Riley (11-1, 6-0) struck out one and walked one while allowing three hits in six innings for the win in the circle. She was 4-for-4 with three RBI, including a two-run home run.

Riley visualizes success before her at-bats. She used to be happy simply making contact, but now tries to do damage.

"I see myself hitting it hard," she said. "My expectations are higher. As a senior, you have to be a leader at-bat and come through."

Seree Petersen was 3-for-3 with two RBI and two runs, Emily Lenke scored twice and Kaytlynn Sandwisch had two RBI and scored once for the second-ranked Rockets (12-2, 6-0).

"Our program philosophy is to stay aggressive and attack strikes," Oak Harbor coach Chris Rawski said. "The girls have continued to do that and the young girls have stepped up.

"We hope to keep it rolling."

Clyde 22, Perkins 1 (5 innings)

Murissa Drown had four hits and four RBI in Clyde's SBC Lake Division victory.

Hunter Schwochow struck out five while allowing four hits and one run in five innings for the win in the circle.

Julia Munoz had four hits, includingn three doubles and four RBI, Chase Arndt had three hits and Kyle Cantu added two for the Fliers.

Clyde scored 12 runs in the third inning and nine in the second.

Old Fort 4, Carey 2

Sarah Hossler hit a three-run home run in the first inning and notched the win in the circle in Old Fort's nonconference victory.

Hossler struck out five and walked one while allowing five hits and two runs (one earned) in seven innings for the win in the circle.

Makinsey Black, Ashlynn Magers and Ashtyn Sebetto also scored for the Stockaders. Savannah McCoy added an RBI.

St. Ursula 10, Ross 2

Paige Risch had an RBI in Ross's Three Rivers Athletic Conference setback.

Braelyn Horn had two hits for the Little Giants.

Tiffin Calvert 7, St. Joseph Central Catholic 5

Brooke Casperson had two RBI in SJCC's SBC River Division setback.

Calvert capped the scoring with three runs in the top of the sixth.

Otsego 15, Woodmore 0 (5 innings)

Lizzy Cook had two of Woodmore's five hits in the Northern Buckeye Conference setback.

Fostoria 9, Genoa 8 (9 innings)

Caitlin Cruickshank had three hits and three RBI in Genoa's Northern Buckeye Conference setback.

Kendall Gerke had two RBI for the Comets.

Genoa scored one run in the bottom of the ninth after Fostoria scored twice in the top half.

Baseball

Clyde 12, Perkins 4

Cayden Rollins had four hits and four RBI in Clyde's SBC Lake Division victory.

Robbie Webb had three hits and Trevor Burtch had two hits and three RBI for the Fliers.

Mikey Haynes struck out 10 in five innings for the win on the mound. Cam Farrar finished with five strikeouts in six outs.

SJCC 5, Calvert 4

SJCC's Ricky Geyer struck out 10 in seven innings to earn the victory on the mound.

"Ricky was a true bulldog once again on the bump and his overall improvement as a pitcher this season has been awesome to see," Crimson Streaks coach Matt Malecha said.

Dylan Filliater had two hits and two RBI for SJCC. Tad Foster walked four times.

The Crimson Streaks capped the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the fifth.

"The pressure we applied on the basepaths was key," Malecha said. "We were able to use our speed to get into scoring position and score runs."

Bellevue 5, Sandusky 1

Garrett Vickery scored once and drove in a run in Bellevue's SBC Lake Division victory.

Mitch Wells and Mike Zietz each added an RBI for the Redmen.

Dalton Hay struck out eight and walked three while allowing one unearned run and two hits in seven innings for the victory on the mound.

Vermilion 8, Port Clinton 0

Jaxon Martinez and Carson Smith had Port Clinton's two hits in an SBC Bay Division setback.

Otsego 3, Woodmore 1

Ian Cook had three of Woodmore's seven hits in the NBC setback.

Derrick Berkel struck out eight and allowed one earned run in a complete-game three-hitter for the Wildcats. Berkel retired Otsego in order in the first, third, fourth and fifth innings.

Fremont Ross 3, Toledo St. Francis 3 (suspended by rain)

The Three Rives Athletic Conference matchup is tied at 3-3 in the eighth and will be completed when St. Francis visits Ross.
