Alabama football's quarterback depth chart took a hit Tuesday as graduate transfer Gardner Minshew announced on his personal Twitter account he was decommitting from the Crimson Tide to join Washington State.

Minshew was East Carolina's starting quarterback for parts of the past two seasons. After graduating in December, he transferred to Alabama before moving on to Mike Leach's Cougars.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL: 18 early predictions for 2018

Sports Illustrated's Bruce Feldman reported Minshew chose Washington State so he could continue his pursuit of an NFL career.

Minshew was supposed to give Alabama quality depth behind national championship game star Tua Tagovailoa and last season's starter, Jalen Hurts. The remaining quarterbacks on the roster are junior Kyle Edwards and redshirt freshman Mac Jones. Minshew's transfer could have a greater impact on the quarterback situation if Tagovailoa misses significant time after suffering a thumb injury in practice Tuesday.

At Washington State, Minshew will compete with six other quarterbacks seeking to replace three-year starter Luke Falk.

In his two years at ECU (he was junior college transfer prior to the 2016 season), Minshew threw for 3,487 yards and 24 touchdowns with 11 interceptions.
