Wyman fells like a fit for the Florida Gators offense

Saturday, the Florida Gators had a lot of 2019 prospects on campus but the Gators coaching staff also had a few underclassmen on campus.

2020 receiver Michael Wyman (6-4, 195, Greensboro, NC. Dudley) was on campus for the first time and got to see a lot of things in Gainesville.

“It was a good visit,” Wyman said of his visit to Florida. “I got to visit with the receiver coach and some of the other staff. I got to sit in on the receivers meeting and then watched the team practice. We also got to speak to one of the academic advisors and explore the campus.”

Wyman was on campus before practice started and got the chance to see and talk to a lot of the coaches.

“We hung out in the coaches office before practice,” he said of the coaches he spoke with. “I spoke with Mr. Otis Yelverton, Coach Billy Gonzales and Coach Charlton Warren before practice.”

Receivers coach Billy Gonzales spent a lot of time with Wyman talking about the Gators offense and the receiver position.

“We talked about the different skills, drills and route running that he likes to run,” Wyman said of his talks with Billy Gonzales. “We talked about my stats and how my skill set, speed and field IQ would benefit the Gators offensively.”

Defensive backs coach Charlton Warren is one of the area recruiters for Wyman and he explained that the Gators would be by to check on the receiver this fall.

“We discussed my early graduation situation, I will graduate December 2019,” he said of his talks with Charlton Warren. “I will be prepared to attend spring ball of 2020. He also said he will be at Dudley SR High School to support our football team and to check out some of my teammates this year.”

Another big coach involved in Wyman’s recruitment is recruiting staff member Otis Yelverton who has a connection to the 2020 receiver.

“Coach O is like family,” Wyman said of his talk with Otis Yelverton. “He’s from Greensboro, North Carolina and we talked about life. He’s a great mentor to me.”

While watching practice, Wyman got the chance to see how he would fit into the Gators offense.

“I liked the practice,” he said of Florida’s practice. “I definitely fit with the receivers. My quarterback was there as well and we watched and took mental notes. We’re getting prepared for the next level.”

After the visit, Wyman admitted the Gators helped themselves but also said he isn’t ready to name any leaders.

“My goal is to be a great asset to whatever program best fits me and vice versa,” Wyman said of his interest in Florida. “The entire staff at Florida was great. I have enjoyed and appreciate the visit and all my visits.”

INSIDERS TAKE: Wyman is one of the top receivers in the 2020 class and he has a lot of interest in Florida and plans to return to Gainesville for a game this fall.
