Port Clinton senior Lauren Shaw continues her swimming career at Ohio Northern University. She joined at her announcement by Karen Shaw and Paul Shaw, seated, and siblings Emily Shaw and Noah Shaw.

Port Clinton senior Lauren Shaw was part of the only girls team to earn a conference championship.

Shaw loved being part of the group. She has a new team as she’ll continue her swimming career at Ohio Northern University.

“I hope that being part of the swim team will allow me to make new friends and provide new experiences,” she said. “The team aspect of the sport of swimming has always been my favorite.

“Everyone working together to achieve a common goal. Ohio Northern will be a perfect fit for me and I can’t wait to begin the next chapter of my life.”

Shaw plans to major in forensic biology.

She helped Port Clinton reach new heights as a sophomore.

“There was no better feeling than winning the first conference title for the women’s swim team in school history with the best teammates, including my sister,” she said. “Qualifying to the state meet in Canton two years of my high school career also holds some of my greatest memories as a Redskin swimmer.”

Shaw, Bryanna Barr, Elena Kessler and Rachel Simpson qualified for state in the 200 freestyle relay last season.

“I could not have asked for a better senior season, accomplishing most of the goals I had set for myself as an individual and with my teammates,” Shaw said. “I loved every moment of this last season spent with the people I started the sport with — Jack (Kessler), Rachel, Elena and Bryanna.

“Swimming holds some of the best memories I have, and being able to make those memories with great friends makes the end of my high school athletic career even more special.”
